Cover Reveal - Taking Chances by Ariadne Wayne

About the Book

Contemporary Romance
Date Published: 3/30/2014

Lauren and Mark Burrows lost their parents in a car accident one night. Despite their father being the drunk driver, both struggle with the urge to turn to drink; Lauren most of all. When all they have is each other, Lauren feels lost when Mark falls in love with Cassie Warren and moves out.

Ethan Stone has been alone since his divorce. His ex-wife took him for everything, and he has felt empty for a long time. He's not looking for love, but Lauren brings him back to life. The question is whether she can fight her demons for the man she loves, and if Ethan can handle the wild ride that is life with Lauren.

Excerpt

Ethan leaned over to kiss her. “I’m looking forward to going to bed too. If I’m invited.”

She laughed, slapping his arm. “Are you kidding? After all that fuss at the door, you had better bring your A game tonight, Mister.”

“I don’t know about that, but I could do with loving you some more. We’ll have to leave pretty early. My schedule is full tomorrow.”

“You still came?”

“Lauren, I told you. You’re worth the effort. If I have to look for work down here, I will.”

“I can’t believe anyone would do that for me.”

“I love you. Even if you don’t feel the same way, I’ll be there when you need me.”

She kissed him. This man was special, and he was hers.

“I do feel the same way. My whole life, no-one ever loved me,” she said.

“I bet that’s a lie. You have such a good heart. Anyone who doesn't love you isn't worth knowing.”

“Can we skip dinner and get to the bed part?”

Ethan squeezed her hand. “Not after the effort I put in. Maybe afterwards.”

“Well, you can’t wash the dishes. There’s no hot water left.”

“You didn't leave any for me?”

Lauren draped her arms over Ethan’s shoulders. “No. You should have joined me.”

“Next time, beautiful.”

She looked away, not wanting to meet his gaze. “What is it, Lauren?”

“No-one’s ever called me that before.”

    “Well, get used to it.”

EM's Review and Interview: Genesis Project by Tigris Eden

About the Book

Sci-Fi Erotica Romance
Date Published: 1/28/2014

Old earth has been deemed unsuitable for life, New Earth is home. With the Uni-Wars over, races have joined together in order to sustain their way of life. All life was considered worth saving, but only one race failed to submit. Humans.

Now extinct, humans are a thing of the past. The people of New Earth won’t acknowledge their hand in their eradication, but they have benefited from it. Dr. Vaggo Blackmore has found the answer, he’s restored his races way of life- sustenance through farming. The one thing that will give them back their long lives….. Blood, human blood.

Biologically engineered in a lab, Genesis Blackmore has always been different. Her father has told her it’s due to her enhancements, the Federated Council sees her as a genetic mutation; and her fellow peers see her as the shiny new toy. Gen has had better days.

Everyone on New Earth has milky white skin, platinum blonde hair, and electric blue eyes. It’s the norm. Genesis’ glossy, black hair, ice blue eyes ringed by gold, would have almost made her socially acceptable- if it wasn't for her golden skin and blue, gold veins. In a sea of milky white she alone is the dark anomaly.

All Pars get their life’s nourishment through blood plasma. All Pars find their match through the tasting. Gen can do neither, forbidden by her father to do so. She can neither taste, nor be tasted. Something that’s never bothered her until now.

About the Author

Tigris Eden
One of Tigris’ fondest memories, was in the sixth grade, when her teacher read her story, “The Case of The Missing Pepperoni”, out loud to the class. It was then she decided she wanted to be a writer when she grew up. But like all childhood dreams, reality has a way of crashing in and disrupting plans. But her imagination and the voices inside her head never stopped talking. Every dream she could remember was jotted down in her dream journals.

Tigris is currently working on the Shadow Unit Series, Romantic Tales: Bedtimes Stories, and has expanded on the Genesis Project which will now be a trilogy introduced in 2014.

Tigris is a military brat who’s done her fair share of travelling, thanks to her Army father. She’s married to the infamous LL and has three boys. She currently resides in Houston and is actively seeking a book-buddy for the end of the world.

Interview

EM: First tell us a little about yourself.

T: Let's see...mother of three boys, book lover, music connoisseur, and debater of movies. And of course I tell fantastical and sometimes dark stories collected from the voices in my head, under the pen name Tigris Eden. But for the most part I'm just chill, it's the people around me that are crazy. :)

EM: That reminds me of the t-shirt my husbands has. "I do what the voices in my wife's head tell me." How do you find time to write with the kids? I know it's struggle for me with my three!

T: Well, I started my life a lot earlier than was planned. My youngest is 16 and my oldest is 19, soon to be 20 and there’s a 17 year old soon to be 18 in the middle.  I had Darryl (Oldest) when I was 16 and my two younger sons who I adore to pieces came with my better half LL.  When they were younger it was near to impossible to write. I did manage to have a poem published somewhere in there while they were in grade school.  But now, they pretty much leave me alone. My 19 year old actually enjoys reading my books! ( I should probably be worried) LOL.

But in all honestly I still have to check in with them, make sure they’re being responsible and of course have numerous talks about real life situations. It was hard to find balance at first, because when I  said, “I’m going to do the damn thing and write,” it was hard for them and me. So we came up with a schedule. Writing time, and then family time. Now it’s mostly writing time, as I've lost some cool points. They all have jobs and don’t really require my assistance as much anymore.

EM: That actually makes me kind of sad. Mine are younger and I'm thinking of the day when it's all writing time because they don't need me anymore! Boohoo!!! Okay, mommy moment over. How many books do you have out and do you self publish?

T: Aww Don’t be sad! It will happen!

All my books are self-published. I have a total of 11 published. Two of them are not on the shelf yet, and I have three more slated for this year. I really enjoy self-pubbing. It gives me a bit more freedom, and yes its hard work, but I have a great team…

EM: Yes...it does take a village to publish a book doesn't it? Are all your books science fiction erotica?

T: It really does! There is a lot of stuff that goes on, and frankly sometimes I want to take a step back and just say, “Yo, for real! Did that just happen.” LOL But then I remember why I chose that route in the first place and am once again happy.

No, all my books are not Sci-Fi Erotica, this is actually my first attempt at Sci-Fi. It does have a bit of a PNR twist to it though as we’re dealing with vampires.  I have two other series, Romantic Tales: Bedtime Stories Season 2 actually features another attempt at Sci-Fi, but with a female assassin feel to it.  Then there is my more popular, PNR Erotic Romance The Shadow Unit Series which features, all types of Paranormal beings.

EM: I do think Genesis Project would be enjoyed by both scifi and paranormal fans. You have weaved the two together in a very unique way. There is a lot of genetics involved in this story. What kind of research did you have to do for the book?

T: For The Genesis Project, I am not even going to lie, I did minimum research. Not that its necessarily a good thing, but sometimes the nerd in my sneaks her way back into my life, and throws me off on a tangent.  So to eliminate that behavior I looked up key things that I know a little about and then of course I watched the movie Splice. Btw, great movie starting Adrien Brody!

Then I just made stuff up along the way. I’m sure if a true geneticist read my story, they would straight up tell me my ideas, although possibly well thought out are just whacked! LOL  But that’s what great about writing Fiction, it’s my story and if I say Gen was created in a lab via the help of a computer and its mechanical arm, well then, that’s what happened.

I am the first to admit I go against the grain, I don’t follow all the rules. I like to think of my canvas as The Matrix. LOL  “Is that really a word you’re writing? Or are you simply seeing it for what you think it should be.” There it goes, the nerd in me! LOL

EM: Girl...we should hang OUT! We could get our nerd on up in here! You would be surprised at
the things I don't have to research either just because Discovery channel is like porn to me. Do you know any good nerdy pick up lines?  I've got one:

Do you have 11 protons? 'Cause you're Sodium fine!

T: OMFG! I love it! Okay… Okay… I got one!  Are you sitting on the F5 Key? Cause your ass is refreshing!

My husband and I quote movie lines, literally all day! I could be walking by and all of a sudden he will bust out with something like:  I’m kind of a big deal… Then I reply with… (totally out of order, but still hilarious as hell) I wanna be on you!

We totally need to hook up! And OMG! ANCIENT ALIENS! I could go on and on! Myth Busters! Another fav channel is NATGEO! We watch Dual Survivor re-runs.. So be safe in the knowledge that if the world should end and technology is on the fritz!… (Hoping it doesn't, as I’m still seeking a book buddy for the end of the world) I can start a fire with brillo pad wire, cotton, and Vaseline!

EM: I can start fire with water. Okay, not just water, but a water bottle and a piece of paper...and it can't be cloudy outside. ANYWAY! I think I'm getting this interview away from your book, but I do believe readers will know a little more about you..maybe TMI! So, back to Genesis...uhem. It's evident that more books are to follow. How many installments do you expect to be in the Genesis series?

T: :)

Right now I have it at three books total in the series with the next book, Origins coming out in Jan of 2015. Third book is not titled yet, but maybe it could be called, The Light of Zothar and Gen lol! Joking! :) but in all seriousness just the three for now I'm throwing some titles around for the third book in my head now.

EM: Well, you definitely left this book open and me itching to know what happens next! Do you have any final words to leave readers with?

T: Final words.... Hmm... I'd like to say a big Thank You to Emily for having me on the blog today! I hope all who've read The Genesis Project will stick around for more, and those who are new readers will give her chance.
And if you really liked Gen stop by and leave us a review! We'd love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks again!

EM: No, thank you Tigris for taking the time to hang out with me for a bit!  It was so much fun!

Review

Tigris Eden creates a new and intriguing world in Genesis project. She's combined science fiction and paranormal seamlessly to bring readers an erotic tale. In this story, we follow Genesis, an adult, who is just learning how to be a Par (vampire) because her "father" has kept her secreted away. Many steamy scenes follow as she falls for the resident hot guy.

I wish there had been more to the plot of this first story as it really just seemed to be the introduction to any action. That being said, I will be looking for the next book as Ms. Eden has left us on a whopper of a cliffhanger.

This story is definitely for adults only and will provide a quick easy read for lovers of scifi or paranomral erotica.

EM's Review and Interview: Succbus Tear by Andreas Wiesemann

About the Book

“I, no—I mean, I was speaking to someone else,” Cain blurted.

The winged woman lowered her face as it filled with desperate longing and horrible resignation. “I understand.” She raised her eyes to Cain. He could see her tears pour upon her face. “I am so sorry that you had to endure this intrusion of my hell into your perception. Forgive me, I will not hold you here.” She turned around and started to walk away.

A harsh internal turmoil erupted in Cain. He felt her despair and desperation flow over his reluctance and selfishness like a wave crumbles a wall of sand.

It’s just a dream, right? I can live with condemning a figment of my imagination, right?

******************

The place where the world, and all its knowledge ends, is the place where the wonderment of Faith begins.
And where they meet, is often the place where the greatest stories of love, redemption, and life are formed and shaped.
In this story we follow Cain Lamentson, an Atheist paired, and Bound to a Succubus he named Al'bah.

Together, they will be the herald of a destiny transcending everything either of them knew. A story that goes beyond. From the depths and darkness of hate, and pride. To the heights of Faith and true love..

Interview with Andreas Wiesemann

EM: Andreas, tell us a little about yourself

A: (chuckles)

Ah man.... how does one tell others who they are, and why they are important?
That kinda reminds me about character writing.

I suppose there are three elements to me that would matter.
I am a dreamer
I am a Pisces
And, I am a Christian.

As a dreamer, I look upon the world through the eyes of wonderment, and imagination. I see more what I want to see, than what is really there. This leaves many to declare me 'being crazy'... but in a good way.
My heart is on my sleeve, unashamed, and unafraid. I present the best parts of me alongside with the worst, and let one decide if knowing my story (me/my life) is worth the read.

Being a dreamer, and a Pisces is usually one and the same. But, in my case I am classified as the atypical Pisces. I am the strong fish that swims against the flow. I test the barriers, and cast my thoughts into the vast stretches of imagination... all to see where the boundaries of ability and thought are, and crash against them to see what is on the other side.
Foolish as it would seem to struggle against impenetrable barriers, but, in the end, I have never moved against the grain of the way my soul sings its chorus to the world, and existence.

Being a Christian means, for the mainstream, that I am a fool.
For my faith, I have been hurled most every insult conceivable. It brings a heavy sigh to both heart, and lungs. For I have seen the stars.
I am not talking about the stars one might see from the backyard on a clear night.
I mean the stars one sees in the middle of the ocean, with no city lights for hundreds of miles.
For that moment, it was easy to understand why humanity could so easily believe in something other than themselves, having sovereignty over them.... long, long ago.
These days, seems like the glory of man tries so hard to overwhelm the glory of the Heavens. And it is not to man's credit, in my opinion.

EM: Well said! Since you brought it up already, my first question pertains to pairing Christian beliefs and Succubus. One might automatically think your book nothing other than erotica the way the Succubi  are normally treated in literature. Is your portrayal of Al'bah, the Succubus, in your book derived from your own imagination or are there more widely held beliefs about the Succubi being angels of some sort that you pulled from?

A: Ah,
What a quagmire that is, isn't it?
In truth, I have never come across any positive literature that is from the era of the first appearance of the Succubi mythos.

So, the personality of Al'bah, the succubus in my story is essentially something I pieced together.
But, I pieced it together in what I like to think is a unique way.

I actually had a rather heated debate with a more traditionalist Christian who condemned my inclusion of a Succubus in a 'Christian' novel.
I write my paraphrased response here.

"If one considers that everything was made by God, one must also concede that God made things with a divine purpose.

When we take Lucifer, as a fallen angel... we must also take into account that there was an original purpose that he "fell" from.

In my opinion Succubi, are no different. Though the Bible does not mention Succubi, they are widely regarded as embodiment of lust, and promiscuity.
I like to think that Succubi, in their original divine purpose were the embodiment of love, and faithfulness."

And, truth be told, I am not the only one who views Succubi, in this light. Tera, "The queen of Succubi" (www.succubus.net) found my novel to be quite special, and enjoyed it a great deal.
Excellent question!

EM: I think you have drawn a very original view of the Succubi myth, one that fantasy readers, both Christian and non, will enjoy. Succubus Tear is your first novel. What spurred you into writing it?

A: (deep sigh)

What spurred me to write this novel?
A lot of things,
At the time I wrote Succubus Tear, I was attending school 40hrs a week, and working 36hrs a week.
Considering drive time (2hrs+) and homework, I never got more than 5 hours of sleep a night for a year!

I often sigh and shake my head when my friends and co-workers tell me they don't have the time to read my novel.
I often respond 'I was busier, and I had time to WRITE it!'

(ahem)

What was it.....
It was a need, a demand my soul had upon my fingers.
It was a love that I wanted to have, and wanted others to have as well.
It was a story for its own sake. A story meant to reveal God to others.
My desperate attempt to treat the stress I was under.
The letters, and words were tears that I could not shed, and sighs that were in vain.

The weight of overwhelming burdens one life can hold, to at last break down a barrier that bled a maelstrom of emotion and words.
Carrying with it, elements from every love story I ever knew, and dreamed of.

Perhaps, in the end... it is the one part of me that I could share with the world. The one part of me that will continue long after I am gone.

EM: It sounds like Succubus Tear is truly part of you, a legacy. Do you think you have it in you to write another "love"?

A: Of course I could.

But I would need just as great a inspiration of love.

Either the lack of, or the fulfillment of.

EM: So now for the really important questions...

Hard copy or ebook?

A: Hard copy.
Without question.

I know it seems like kinda a hypocritical thing, considering Succubus Tear is an ebook. (for now)
But, I will say I carry a hand made copy with me everywhere I go.

And to anticipate the next question...
The reason why I prefer hard copy might be...rather odd.

I remember browsing libraries of most cities I ever lived in.
And college.

I have seen books that were not touched for longer than I have been alive. It always amazes me to touch the page. To see the author's name.
To read the name of the person on the "library card" who checked out "Moon's Glory" in 1964...eighteen years before I was born.
In those days, to have a published "book" was a greater accomplishment than today.

These days, data and text is so fleeting.
I like to think all authors *want* their books in print. To touch and feel the result of their work.
Even so, I have a unique insight to this concept as I *hand-bound* several copies of my first novel.
It was a learning process, but a joyful one at that.
And more than that... I think the author blesses the reader who understand this truth as well.

Imagine the scribe who penned a book by hand.
Or when typewriters were in existence.
The materials needed to craft and form such a work of art.... all to tell a story, or to inform.
To convey something to someone else.

That an object appearing to be so simple....is actually so much more.
That is the very nature of telling a story. And that is why I will always love holding a book in my hands, than any electronic medium.

EM: Cats or dogs?

A: I've had the pleasure to own both.
But, I found out I don't want to own another pet, any pet. Never gave much thought as to why.
Although, if I had no choice, I'd say dog. Dogs can and will do things cats can't or wont.

EM: Sketchers or Converse?

A: Hmmm,
I have Avia shoes (Wal-mart)
Never owned either brand.
But, I like the look of sketchers better.

EM: Broccoli or beans?

A: Aren't both famous for giving you gas?
lol
beans, you can do so much more with em, and there are so many varieties and types.
Favorite = *fresh* green bean

EM: Yes. Yes they are.
Thanks Andrea for taking the time to readers know a little more about you. Good luck with Succubus Tear!

My Review

It's hard to know where to start with Succubus Tear. It is truly unlike anything I've ever read. When I started the book, I thought it would probably be the same old spin on a Paranormal Romance. But I was so wrong in such a good way. Succubus Tear is about the struggle of a man to understand love and and "all loving" creature to come to terms with the love she feels she can not attain.

Together, Cain and Al'bah embark on an action filled journey. Through the adventure, readers are given a glimpse of their souls. Not only are these two characters drawn exquisitely, but all the supporting characters are vibrant and believable as well. It is fast paced and thought provoking.

I always like to give pros and cons of a book, because there are always cons, but I can't seem to find any for Succubus Tear. I wasn't fond of some of the less developed sketches I guess, but that really doesn't reflect on the story!

This book is for older YA and up as there is some language, sexual themes, and some pretty heavy duty soul searching that younger kids either need guidance or would just find boring. But any fantasy, paranormal junkie will enjoy Succubus Tear. While there are theological themes in this book, I think both religious and non can enjoy the story for the story itself. It poses some questions that will have both sides of the abyss thinking.

Succubus Tear is a well written, unique story that will stay with you for quite a while.

KL Reviews: Wind Whisperer by Krista Holle

About the Book

The Wind Whisperer

At fifteen, Anaii is the most important member of her tribe—and the most mysterious. Ever since Anaii can remember, the spirits of the wind have whispered of fertile hunting grounds and imminent enemy attacks. But when her people are ambushed by a brother clan without any apparent cause, the spirits remain eerily silent.

As the village prepares to retaliate, Anaii is pressured by her best friend, Elan, to marry him. It’s an old plea—Elan has spent a lifetime loving her, but Anaii only sees a childhood playmate out of an imposing warrior. Stifled by Elan’s insistence, Anaii escapes into the forest where she meets Jayttin, the beautiful son of the enemy chief.

Enamored by Jayttin’s carefree spirit and hope for peace, she repeatedly sneaks away to be with him, but when her deception is discovered, Elan is devastated. Pledging his lifelong affection, Elan gives her a passionate kiss, and Anaii begins to see her friend in a new light.

While Anaii is tormented over which man she must choose, the wind whispers of a new threat that could destroy both tribes. Only a union will afford a chance at survival, but the reality of that union is based on one thing—which man Anaii chooses to die.

KL's Review

It has been some time since I have read a Young Adult Paranormal romance that has captured my attention as much as The Wind Whisperer did.  I always love to read something that I feel is a new, fresh take on the genre.  Krista Holle has struck fictional gold by taking us back in time to a pre-colonial America and planting us in the middle of a fierce rivalry between two Native American tribes.  Anaii, the adopted daughter of the chief, has an unusual place on the tribal council because of her ability to speak with the wind.  Her gift is coupled with an unbridled spirit that leads her into very dangerous territory.  She finds herself torn between tribal loyalty, the love of a lifetime, and her own happiness.  I couldn’t put this book down until the wee hours of the morning. It is simply that good!  Well written, beautiful character development, and a plot that doesn’t stop.  It will grab you from the beginning and leave you ready for the sequel!

EM's Review and Interview: Soul Stealer by Sam Richardson

About the Book

By crawling into a crack in the wall, Barney and his older sister Eve, unwittingly volunteer to save the Universe. According to Eve, Barney is like every other twelve year old boy, “Irritating by nature.” He’s impulsive, frequently gross and has the uncanny ability to wind her up with just one word. She isn't sure what’s worse; to be told they have to save the universe before it implodes, or the knowledge that Barney will be her constant companion. How many farts can one girl endure before she loses her sense of smell?

Barney loves adventure, but he never imagined he’d get to be the hero, or that his fantasy would include his uptight sister. He soon learns that if they accept their mission, they could die. If they don’t, they’ll definitely die. To top if off, he discovers they volunteered for the job.

In order to save the Universe, Barney and Eve must hunt and capture a magical band of thieves, before they steal the Souls of any more worlds. On their amazing adventure Barney nearly soils his underpants on a wild ride on a giant eel, and Eve narrowly avoids death by giant flying scorpions. Both must endure a feast of eyeballs and other gelatinous delicacies, escape the clutches of an undead child, and still stay on the trail of the evil thieves.

Interview with Sam Richardson

EM: Tell us a little about yourself and why you wrote Soul Stealer!

Sam: Well, I'm a British mum currently living in Germany. Over the last few years we've also lived in Amsterdam and Toronto (and of course England!). I have to say, Germany has been the hardest move, the language is not easy and the people are pretty blunt. But they do make a good bratwurst! Soul Stealer popped into existence on a snowy morning in Amsterdam, when looking out my window one day, I saw a little crack in the garden wall and my imagination went crazy! Over the next couple of years I became totally immersed in creating this fun and wild adventure. It was a constant environment I could dip into where-ever I was in the world.

EM: I just love how the most mundane of things can spark an idea. Tell us some about your main characters. I know you have inspiration for them from somewhere!

Sam: Originally I based the characters on exaggerated versions of what I imagined my own children might become. My two real life little monkeys are in fact called Eve and Barney! But gradually the fictional characters took on a life of their own and became totally separate from the originals - which is why I often forget where they originated! It was still important to me to have the siblings work together and always look out for each other throughout their adventure, despite their differences.

EM: I was very pleased with how the relationship between Eve and Barney developed in the story. I liked how they protected each other. As a parent, I like to see the books my children read teach them something about the real world, even if it's science fiction or fantasy. What else can Soul Stealer teach readers? (I think only parents will be reading this, so you're safe!)

Sam: I would hope the book teaches that it's okay to be scared sometimes, crying is not a sign of weakness it's often just part of the healing process. Eve and Barney have to cope with some scary situations, each of which gradually make them stronger as individuals and as a team. I also think the ability to laugh at yourself and not take silly things too seriously is very important.  Hopefully I have shown this throughout the book. At the end of the day I wanted to create a good old fashioned adventure!

EM:I think you did exactly what you set out to do! Now, the big question that will be on young readers' minds soon enough...Will Barney and Eve be headed on any more adventures in the near future?

Sam: I think they're getting itchy feel already! Although adventures of this magnitude take preparation, and I wouldn't want Eve and Barney to be unprepared! definitely in the pipeline though! I also welcome any thoughts as to where readers might want to see Eve and Barney go next.

EM: I think readers will be excited to hear this!  Is there anything else you would have parents of middle grade readers, or the readers themselves know?

Sam: I'd love to leave you with something thought provoking, but nope! Read and enjoy!

EM: HAHA!  Thanks, Sam, for chatting with me, and good luck with Soul Stealer! It's an amazing book!

My Review

Soul Stealer is an AWESOME book!  I don't normally read middle grade books...because...you know...I'm not a middle grader. But even adults will enjoy this action packed story. Many times Ms. Richardson will leave you on the edge of your seat. But even more than that, the author's imagination captured me. She has created a world...nay, worlds that are so fantastic and eloquently described you will be thinking about them long after the book is over.

My only complaint is that there isn't another adventure for Barney and Eve to go on yet! I think the length is perfect for MG though. I would caution parents of very sensitive children that there are some themes of death and loss in Soul Stealer as well as some pretty intense scenes with Zombie like creatures. I think it would be fine for most though. There is lots of potty humor and I think a "bloody hell" or two. You'll be happy to know it's innuendo free though!

Overall, I can't praise this book enough. You'll enjoy it!  Your kids will certainly enjoy it! It's just a fun, exciting, adventure.

After Alex Died

About the Book

New Adult Romance
Date Published: 11/28/2013

"Don't be someone who defines her life by someone else's death."

Dee Dee DeMarco's brother, Alex, was funny, free-spirited and creative. He was also gay. Tormented by bullies, Alex killed himself on his 15th birthday.

Two years later, and now in college, Dee Dee believes getting a summer job working with a college-prep program for disadvantaged high school students is a stroke of luck, until she discovers that the guy assigned to co-lead her group is Cameron Connelly, a star basketball player and one of the bullies who tormented her brother to death. How can Dee Dee possibly spend the entire summer working so closely with one of the boys she blames for her brother's death?

EXCERPT

I could feel my heartbeat quicken as I entered the auditorium. The kids were talking and messing around as they waited for the class to begin. The other counselors, with the exception of Cameron, were also seated in the audience with the kids. Cameron was standing at the podium with Dr. Jones.

When Cameron saw me walk in, he winked at me. I didn't know whether to slap him or hug him. Therein was the problem.

Dr. Jones waved her arms to get everyone's attention. "Quiet everyone. We have a special presentation today. Cameron is going to talk to you about bullying and how it impacted his life."

"Who would bully him?" one of the kids cracked and the other kids laughed.

"Enough," Dr. Jones reprimanded. "I expect you to give Cameron your attention and utmost respect."

Cameron took the podium. "Thank you, Dr. Jones. I'm here today to talk about bullying. Not because I was bullied when I was your age but because I was a bully. And it ruined my life."

When I looked out over the sea of faces, all eyes were trained on Cameron.

"I thought I had everything. I was one of the school's first string basketball players. We were all-state champions. I already had a full basketball scholarship to Penn State. I was popular. I had tons of friends. I could get a date with any girl in the school. And I lost it all."
